ATTO TETTEH, one of Ghana’s Finest and fastest growing menswear brand, esteemed for creating Timeless,Original, and Quality designs. His recent collection “THE SON OF GOLD COAST” was a true display of Ghanaian modern fashion and creativity. We catch up with the man of the moment, the creative director GEORGE TETTEH popularly Known as Atto.
AO: What inspired “The Son of Gold Coast SS17 Collection”
AT: The Son of Gold Coast like the name suggests was inspired by Ghana’s Gold Coast era. We identified some prominent personalities of that time such as Kwame Nkrumah and Otumfo Opoku Ware II, studied their style and translated it to contemporary fashion trends in ways we can easily relate.
AO: The feedback was amazing during your showcase at Glitz Africa Fashion Week 2017, how does it make you feel?
AT: The best reward for any designer is acknowledgement and good reviews for their work and the feedback we got Glitz Africa Fashion Week was overwhelming. This encourages us to keep working hard to present our rich culture to the rest of the world.
AO: For me, menswear gets boring sometimes, as a creative director and menswear designer, what goes into the creative process when designing a collection?
AT: I think being a menswear designer is just as difficult as being a womenswear designer. When designing for men I imagine myself as an artist with a basic shirt and trousers as my canvas. So on this canvas goes all the creativity.
AO: What inspires your personal sense of style?
AT: I believe in dressing to suit the occasion. I’m a conservative and less is more is my mantra.
AO: What do you love about the Ghanaian Fashion Industry?
AT: I like the fact that is steadily growing, with a lot of creative individuals. The future is bright and I believe we would get there.
AO: In your opinion, what do you think is the biggest challenge in our fashion industry and how do you think we can solve it?
AT: One of the biggest challenge in our fashion industry is availability of human resource. Skilled workers such as pattern makers, machinists, and embroiders are very difficult to find and manage. This can solved by the establishment of specialist technical institutions that will train people in these areas since almost all fashion schools are training students to become designers.
AO: Lastly, what is the plan for ATTO TETTEH, How do you want to see the brand in 5 years?
AT: In 5 years, ATTO TETTEH hopes to be a leading African menswear brand in the world present in major African cities and with a strong online presence.
AO: Thank you Mr. George Tetteh, it was amazing having you chat with us, we’re super proud of you, and we say kudos on your new collection, we believe it will sell out when is ready online.
AT: Thank you AuntieOboshie, it was an honor chatting with you as well. God bless you for putting more spotlight on Ghanaian fashion.
