A great cocktail can be found in Accra at a new generation of bars spending serious time training the great mixologist. The weekend is a here and what better way to celebrate than with a cocktail? This is the only time a lot of us get to indulge in a drink because we don’t have to be at work. Here are places to get your nice and bright cocktails in Accra.
- REPUBLIC BAR & GRILL
This bar as it remains one of the best bars in Accra right now, thanks to its relaxed approach to the good things in life: alcohol, fried food and really great music. It’s a tiny space that tumbles out onto the street when things really kick off, late on a Friday or Saturday. Album covers and black-and-white photos of music stars adorn the walls as Ghanaian music blasts out (there are often jaw-dropping highlife music acts live on the terrace. The ingredients used in the cocktails are not found anywhere else. They are located at Osu, Oxford Street.
2. URBAN GRILL
The service is attentive and the ambiance is upscale and modern and their cocktails are drinks you need to see to believe. They are also located at Icon House, Airport.
3. BURGER & RELISH
Burger & Relish was Ghana’s first gourmet burger restaurant and cocktail bar – and it just keeps getting better. Their cocktail list is superb. The appealing interior has a vintage industrial design, mixing together quirky urban art and other curiosities to create an eclectic East London/Soho New York-style feel. If you’ve enjoyed Meat Liquor or Honest Burger in London, you’ll be at home here. Careful attention has been paid to every detail, from the playlist to the drinks offering. From the food menu, the Ghanaian -inspired Independence Burger comes with jollof rice balls and shito mayo, while the new Three Little Piggies is a chorizo and beef burger with crispy smoked bacon, bacon jam, homemade BBQ sauce and crispy onions. For sides? Well, it’s worth coming for the deep-fried pickles and blue cheese mayo alone. There are good vegetarian options too.
